Training

Jumbuck Pastoral has instituted a formal training programme to ensure that staff are given a thorough grounding in all the skills needed to equip them to be versatile in all aspects of the pastoral industry. This benefits both the staff and Jumbuck, as with well trained employees work is easier and safer. Employees benefit with a formalized training system which enables them to qualify for a nationally recognised Certificate.
Jumbuck offers a Certificate III in Agriculture (Sheep and Wool) at the three Stations in the North West of S.A. and Rawlinna and Madura Plains on the Nullarbor. Certificate II and III in Agriculture (Beef Cattle) is also offered on the West Kimberley Cattle Stations.

Jumbuck has set high standards in the practical skills needed to attain the competencies necessary to qualify for the Certificate III.

Trainees will gain practical skills in:

  • Livestock Husbandry
  • Road transportation and loading stock
  • Lamb marking
  • Mustering
  • Droving
  • Control of parasites
  • Control of vertebrate pests
  • Maintenance of windmills, tanks, troughs, pipelines and pumpjacks.
  • Maintenance of motorbikes and small engines.
  • Ability to operate safely on large remote Stations in all weather whilst maintaining
    a high standard of personal safety.

During the practical training, external trainers are brought in to deliver modules on Welding, First Aid, Occupational Health and Safety, Small Motors and Motorbikes. As well as the Certificate III training short courses are offered to all staff on diverse subjects such as, Low stress stock handling, Horsemanship and breaking-in, Bushfire control and First Aid.
