Madura Plains adjoins the Eyre Highway, on the Nullarbor Plain and has an area of approximately 1.75 million acres. The proximity to the settlement of Madura and the coast gives staff a closer link to civilization than most Jumbuck Stations as well as the advantage of cool nights even after the hottest days.

Manager Charles Gorry runs Madura Plains with a staff of 8.

50,000 merino sheep are shorn on average in September and as with most Jumbuck Sheep Stations, the horse has long since been replaced by motorbikes and aeroplanes.

Madura Station was added to the Moonera holding in 1987 and is still being developed with the subdivision of large paddocks and the addition of extra water points, windmills and pipelines.

The average rainfall is 9” and daily temperatures are about 38 degrees in the summer and 19 degrees in the winter.

Wool is delivered to Adelaide or Perth to be core tested and sold and sheep are generally sold privately on the Station
